Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-08-04

The privacy of your data — and it is your data, not ours — matters to us. This policy lays out what we collect and why, how your data is handled, when we access or disclose it, and the rights you have over it. We have never sold your personal data and we never will.

This policy applies to visitors to the Kiqwax website, to people who submit one of our website forms, and to athletes and coaches using the Kiqwax app and dashboard. We refer to all of you as "you" throughout.

Kiqwax ("Kiqwax", "we", "us") is the data controller for the information described here. Kiqwax was previously developed under the working name "nordiq" — if you see that name in older records or communications, it refers to the same company and product. Contact us about this policy or your data at hello@kiqwax.com.

What we collect and why

Our guiding principle is to collect only what we need. Here is what that means in practice.

Identity and access

When an account is created for you, we hold identifying information such as your name and email address, so that you can sign in, so we can tell your data apart from another athlete's, and so we can send you essential information about the service.

From the website, we collect the email address, selection, optional comment, and marketing-consent choice you submit through our forms, along with the campaign parameters, submission source, and browser user-agent string recorded with each submission.

We will never sell your personal information to third parties, and we will not use your name in marketing statements without your permission.

Your session data

Kiqwax records your ski sessions using your phone. For every recorded session we collect precise location (latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, and course over time), barometric altitude and pressure, accelerometer and gyroscope motion data, and magnetometer readings — captured by your phone's own sensors, for every session, with no separate opt-in per session.

If you use a paired sensor device, its motion and environmental readings are captured the same way, in addition to your phone's own data.

Your device model and operating system version are recorded with each session. An identifier held only on your device may also accompany a session.

We store this content so the product can work as intended: your session data is what the feedback and analysis you use the app to see are built from. It is the core of the product, not a side collection. We keep it for as long as your account is active — see Data retention below.

Location data

Precise location is not incidental to Kiqwax — a location track is most of what a recorded session is. Your device asks for your permission before the app can record it, and you can withdraw that permission at any time in your device settings, though the app cannot record a meaningful session without it.

We do not use your location for advertising, and we do not share your tracks with other athletes or with anyone outside our third-party processors. A coach sees the sessions of the athletes they manage; that access is enforced per athlete.

Website interactions

We keep ordinary web-server request logs, which include IP addresses, so that we can keep the site running and diagnose problems with it.

Our public website forms use your IP address to rate-limit submissions and deter spam. For that purpose we record it as a hash rather than in plain form, in a counter kept separately from your submission. Hashing limits who could read the address at a glance, but it does not make the value anonymous, so we treat it as personal information for as long as we hold it. These counters are cleared periodically rather than on a fixed schedule, so we do not claim a specific retention period for them. Neither your IP address nor its hash is stored alongside your submission.

We do not run any third-party web analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts on this site. There is no ad network, no analytics vendor, and no cross-site tracking pixel.

Cookies

A cookie is a small piece of text stored by your browser. Kiqwax sets first-party cookies for one purpose only: keeping you signed in to your account. We set no advertising cookies and no third-party tracking cookies.

You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings. If you block ours, the marketing pages will still work, but you will not be able to stay signed in to the dashboard.

Voluntary correspondence

When you email Kiqwax with a question or for help, we keep that correspondence, including your email address, so we have a history to refer to if you get in touch again.

We also keep information you volunteer, such as written answers to surveys or feedback about a session. If we ever ask to record a conversation with you, we will do so only with your express consent.

How we approach mobile app permissions

The Kiqwax app must ask your consent before using privacy-sensitive features of your device. It asks for location so it can record a session, for motion data so it can capture your phone's sensors, for Bluetooth if you pair a sensor device, and for notifications.

Every one of these is optional and refusing one does not stop the app from opening — but a feature that depends on a permission cannot work without it. Location, in particular, is required for a session recording to be worth anything.

When we access or disclose your information

To provide the service. We rely on a small number of third-party processors to run Kiqwax. None is given access beyond what is needed to provide their service to us, and none may use your data for their own purposes. Email hello@kiqwax.com if you need details about the processors we use.

To coach you and to run the product. Kiqwax staff and the coaches working with us do look at your session data. We do so to provide coaching and training services — reviewing your sessions, writing feedback, and building your training plans — to improve the product, and to check the quality of what we produce. We look at no more than the work requires.

To support you. If you report a problem with a session, we will look at that session to diagnose and fix it.

To investigate or prevent abuse. Accessing an account while investigating potential abuse is a measure of last resort, and we take it only as far as needed to protect the safety of our users and the integrity of the service.

Aggregated and de-identified data. We may aggregate or de-identify information so that it no longer identifies you, and use that for any purpose, including improving the product.

When required under applicable law. Kiqwax is a U.S. operation and our data is held in the United States. Our policy is not to respond to government requests for user data unless we are compelled by valid legal process. Where we are compelled, our policy is to notify the affected user beforehand unless we are legally prohibited from doing so.

If Kiqwax is ever acquired by or merged with another company, we will notify you well before any of your personal information is transferred or becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Your rights with respect to your information

We apply the same data rights to everyone, wherever you live, rather than only to people covered by a particular law. Those rights include:

Right to know. You have the right to know what personal information is collected, used, and shared. We set out both the categories and the specific data we collect, and what we do with it, in this policy.

Right of access. You have the right to obtain the personal information we hold about you, and information about how it is stored, secured, and processed.

Right to correction. You have the right to ask us to correct personal information that is wrong.

Right to erasure. You have the right to ask that your personal information be deleted from our systems and, by extension, from our processors. Deleting your session data will generally mean closing your account, because the product cannot function without it.

Right to restrict processing. You have the right to ask us to restrict how and why your personal information is used, including opting out of any sale of it. We have never sold personal data and never will.

Right to object. You have the right, in certain situations, to object to how or why your personal information is processed.

Right to portability. You have the right to receive the personal data we hold about you and to have it transmitted elsewhere. Email us and we will export your account and session data for you.

Right not to be subject to automated decision-making. Kiqwax generates automated coaching feedback from your session data — that is what the product does — but nothing we produce has a legal or similarly significant effect on you, and no decision of that kind is made about you by automated means.

Right to non-discrimination. We will not charge you a different price, offer you a worse discount, or give you a lower level of service because you exercised a data-privacy right.

Right to complain. You have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority about how we have handled your personal information. If you are in the EU or UK, your national data protection authority is the place to do that.

We process session data because it is necessary to provide the service you use the app for. We send marketing email only where you have given explicit consent on the relevant form, and you may withdraw that consent at any time by contacting us or using the unsubscribe link in any email.

To exercise any of these, email hello@kiqwax.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and may first need to verify your identity — usually by confirming the email address on the account — before we act on a request. Some information may be exempt from a request under applicable law, and we may need to retain certain records to meet legal obligations.

How we secure your data

All data is encrypted in transit with TLS, both when your phone uploads a session and when your browser talks to our API. Data at rest is encrypted.

Access to your account records and session files is restricted by per-user access-control policies and least-privilege credentials, so an athlete can reach only their own data and a coach only the athletes they manage. The public website forms hold credentials that can submit new entries and nothing else — they cannot read, change, or delete any data.

What happens when you delete content in your product accounts

To delete a session, or your whole account and the session data in it, email hello@kiqwax.com from the address on your account and we will process the deletion.

When we delete an account, we remove its records and its session files from our systems. Copies may persist briefly in encrypted backups before those backups age out on their normal schedule.

Data retention

We keep information for as long as it is needed for the purposes it was collected for, after which we delete or aggregate it. We may retain what we must to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Session data, including precise location history, is kept for as long as your account exists, because it is what your dashboard is built from. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.

Location of site and data

Kiqwax is operated from the United States, and our data is hosted in the United States.

If you are located in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or elsewhere outside the United States, please be aware that the information you provide to us will be transferred to and stored in the United States. By using Kiqwax and providing us with your personal information, you consent to that transfer.

When transferring personal data from the EU

EU law requires that personal data transferred outside the EU keeps the same level of protection it had there. The protections set out in this policy — what we collect, how we secure it, who may access it, and the rights you hold over it — apply to your personal data wherever you are located and wherever it is held.

If you are in the EU and want to know what safeguards apply to your personal data, email hello@kiqwax.com.

Changes and questions

This policy was last updated on 2026-08-04 (version v4). We may update it to reflect new practices or to comply with relevant regulations. Whenever we make a significant change we will refresh the date above, and where a change affects a specific consent you gave us, we will ask you to consent again.

Have a question, comment, or concern about this policy, your data, or your rights? Email us at hello@kiqwax.com and we will be glad to answer.
